Doctor Maria Montessori said that children acquire knowledge through experience in the environment. This is one of the leading principles that guide the design of our Tuxedo Park campus, where the learning environment is designed to be open and accessible to all students.
Located on the main floor of Trail 19, Blüm Childcare Academy in Tuxedo Park brings modern and intentional early learning to Calgary’s inner city. In our classrooms, everything has a purpose and a place, and this practice of clutter-free living is taught to all students.
Our tight-knit campus communities are ignited to engage our students to develop a clear sense of values and a social conscience on their path to becoming responsible global citizens. The Tuxedo Park Community Association is a volunteer-led organization dedicated to enhancing our neighborhood and one which Blüm is proud to collaborate with through different partnerships that engage our students and Educators.

This facility provides subsidized housing for Albertans who have retired and is located a few short blocks from the Tuxedo Park campus. We are delighted to have our students participate in different activations with Sharon Manor residents throughout the year.
Made by Momma is a grassroots non-profit organization and registered Canadian charity located in Calgary’s NW. They help families facing situations of adversity and crisis by providing healthy prepared meals, supportive in-home visits, and many other services. Through scheduled goods drives, Blüm is proud to provide vital baby essentials and children’s items for families accessing Made by Momma.
Blüm’s programming is a proprietary synthesis of internationally respected Montessori pedagogy and the inquiry-driven framework of Reggio Emilia—an approach that aligns closely with Alberta’s provincially recognized Early Learning and Care Framework. This integration ensures learning experiences are developmentally grounded, research-informed, and deeply responsive to the student.
Classrooms are intentionally free from screens and digital media, allowing students to engage fully with thoughtfully curated materials, quality literature, and hands-on learning experiences. Natural and open-ended materials—such as stones, wood, textiles, and loose parts—are regularly incorporated into play, visual arts, and creative exploration, supporting imagination, problem-solving, and expressive thinking.
As we approach the one year anniversary of this childcare program, I have been reflecting on my immense gratitude for Blum. My kids look forward to attending the program every day and they adore their educators. At Blum, you can expect beautiful, clean and thoughtful spaces for children to play. Likewise, the program is designed with specific rotating thematic components. Arts and crafts, physical activities, music and active play are anchored in the theme of the month. As an artist, I’m continually impressed by the level of creative engagement they offer and its fantastic to see my kids thrive in their care.
I have observed a reflective learning program, as the educators work with parents to problem solve, provide supportive feedback and make changes when necessary. It’s an open door policy, and I have appreciated the opportunity to observe my kids navigate their daily routines.
Other Blum highlights include local field trips, special visitors/presentations, activities with the jumping jellies dance company, daily email summary (including photos), monthly newsletters, yearbook, and a healthy rotating seasonal menu that still blows my mind.
The founders, educators, the director of Blum have worked hard to create a unique, welcoming and wonderful learning environment! It’s impossible to compare this program to our previous chaotic daycare in the east village. I would highly recommend Blum Childcare Academy.
